Ranking for geographically-related keywords. Placing the geographical location before or after the keyword.
I'll explain it really quickly. If you provide a service, let's say you are a Plumber. I'm sure you do not cater to the entire Nation. You probably serve a city and the surrounding cities. So when someone types into Google the city that your in, and the keywords associated with "product/services name", you need to show up. For instance,"city + product/services name" or "product/services name+city", are two searches that are probably very popular. Now your probably thinking that being on page 1 of the top search engines would be excellent, and actually it happens to be priceless.
While our state-of-the-art technology focuses on business presence in local, maps, and mobile searches, our customers often see an increase in natural ranking of their websites and/or business profiles.
Here are a few steps to take that can start you off on the right path
Find your target audience geographically
Use your page titles to your advantage, place your most important phrase at the beginning as well as making it clicker friendly (make someone click)
Make sure that each page title is completely original and unique (Google hates duplicates!)
Internal link structure is very important. If you are deep-linking then you should reference those links on the home page (locations or products section) Reason being is that if you create pages that are not linked to from the home page then it's a lot harder for Google to find them. When they crawl your home page they follow the links and if there is no link that tells them where to find these deep links then how can they see it?
You should add your contact information to every page. Whether it's in the top right corner, sidebar, widget area, or footer, be sure to include company name, address, and phone number.
Go out and get some citations. This is a reference or mention of your business name and site. Here are some examples: Online Yellow Pages, Super Pages, Chamber of Commerce, Yelp, City Search, Urban Spoon, Angie's List, Yahoo Local, Trip Advisor, Merchant Circle, Manta, Insider Pages, Mojopages, Judy's Book and Kudzo.
